September in Florence: the best time to visit after the school holidays

For travellers without school-age children, September is the best moment of the year. Schools are back in the first week and the crowds drop straight away.
Florence in September
Days are still around 27 °C. On 7 September Florence celebrates the Rificolona, a children's lantern festival around Santissima Annunziata. The Uffizi and the Duomo are easier to book than in summer.
Harvest season
The grape harvest begins. In the Chianti hills, Greve hosts the Expo del Chianti Classico, usually on the second weekend of the month. Look for schiacciata all'uva in bakeries.
Pool still open
The sea and the pool are still warm through most of September.
Why Redolina
Three equal double bedrooms with their own bathrooms: perfect for friends or two couples.
