October half-term in Tuscany: olive harvest and golden hills

Redolina – October half-term in Tuscany: olive harvest and golden hills

October half-term usually falls in the last week of October. It is one of the most underrated weeks for Tuscany.

Florence in October

Mild days around 20 °C, soft light and much shorter queues. It is the right moment for the museums you skipped in summer: the Bargello, Palazzo Pitti and the Medici Chapels.

Lucca Comics and Games

At the end of October, Lucca hosts Lucca Comics & Games, one of Europe's biggest comics and gaming festivals. Teenagers love it; if you just want to visit Lucca, choose another day.

The harvest

The olive harvest begins. Small mills near Pistoia and Lucca often let you taste oil pressed the same day. Porcini and chestnuts appear on menus.

Why Redolina

The house sits among olive groves: October is when the landscape around it is at its most Tuscan. Heating is available for cooler evenings.
