A St George's Day weekend in Florence and Tuscany

St George's Day on 23 April is not a bank holiday, but late April is one of the best moments for a long weekend in Tuscany. In 2027 the 23rd is a Friday, so a Thursday-to-Monday trip needs just two days of leave.
Florence in late April
Florence's Giardino dell'Iris, below Piazzale Michelangelo, usually opens in late April for a few weeks only, with the city's emblem in full flower. On 25 April Italy celebrates Liberation Day: shops stay open in the centre, but expect Italian visitors in the museums.
Weather and crowds
Days are around 20 °C, light enough for long walks without the summer heat. Crowds are moderate; book the Duomo dome climb a few days ahead.
Beyond the city
Spend a day in Lucca and an afternoon in the spa town of Montecatini Terme, 20 minutes from Redolina, then come back for dinner on the patio.
Why Redolina
A whole stone farmhouse for up to eight people, three en-suite bedrooms and a quiet garden: ideal for two couples sharing a spring weekend.
