Halloween and All Saints in Florence: autumn without crowds

Halloween is not a big tradition in Italy, though children in the cities now trick-or-treat. 1 November (Ognissanti) is a public holiday, and Italians often take a long weekend.
Florence on 1 November
Some shops close, the main museums usually open. In 2027 it falls on a Monday, so expect Italian visitors from Saturday to Monday.
Autumn food
It is the season of chestnuts, new olive oil and the first white truffles. Look for village sagre (food festivals) in the hills around Pistoia.
Quiet hills
After the holiday, Tuscany becomes very quiet: perfect for walks in the chestnut woods around Marliana.
Why Redolina
A farmhouse built in 1912, stone walls and wooden beams: made for slow autumn days.
