May half-term and the Spring bank holiday: the best family week in Florence
May half-term usually runs around the Spring bank holiday, which in 2027 is Monday 31 May. For families it may be the single best week of the year for Tuscany.
Florence in early June
The city is warm (26–28 °C) but not yet in the July heat. 2 June is Festa della Repubblica, Italy's national day, with flags and a holiday atmosphere. The first Sunday of the month, state museums including the Uffizi are free: it is also their busiest day, so avoid it.
With children
Mornings in Florence, afternoons by the pool. Pinocchio Park in Collodi is 30 minutes away, the Leaning Tower of Pisa about an hour, and the beaches of Versilia are an hour by car.
Book early
Half-term is popular: book flights to Pisa or Florence and museum tickets as soon as dates are confirmed.
